Robert Alexander Farrar Thurman (Nueva York, 3 de agosto de 1941-Woodstock, Nueva York, 16 de junio de 2026)[1] fue un escritor y académico estadounidense que escribió, editó y tradujo obras de temática budista.[2]

Biografía

Padre de la actriz Uma Thurman.[3] Robert se desempeñó como docente de estudios budistas tibetanos en la Universidad de Columbia, ocupando la primera cátedra subvencionada en este campo de estudio en los Estados Unidos. También fue el cofundador y presidente del centro cultural Tibet House en Nueva York. Tradujo, entre otros textos notables, el Sutra Vimalakirti Nirdesa del Kanjur tibetano al inglés.[4]
